Happy holidays, yes we have been having fun, seeing old friends and new and old places.

Our trip to the Amalfi coast lived up to our expectations and was wonderful, hot and beautiful.  We were also able to spend a night in Pompeii and visited the Pompeii ruins which are a lot bigger than I imagined and we also went up Mount Vesuvius which is black and steaming and offers up great views of Napoli below as well (inbetween the clouds).

Along the coast the 'blues' are fabulous, the blue sea and the blue sky, we took in the views on the coast road bus (not for those fearful of heights or prone to travel sickness) and then on the boat to Capri.  Positano was our favourite overall and we will remember the steps forever, it helps to be fit when visiting the Amalfi coast !

There was plenty of ceramic interest as with all the mediterrean areas I have visited, as with Turkey, Crete and Tunisia lots of lovely hand painted tiles and pottery with vivid colours and in addition the Roman Catholic churches which are very ornate.  Lots of inspiration for future designs!

As it's holiday season Joanna London Print Decorated Ceramics has taken it easy as well with no planned events or new developments during August but we are swiftly moving towards September when some new projects are planned.

I shall be updating my SALE page for sales starting in September, a kind of end of summer sale rather than a traditional summer sale so be sure to watch that space for bargains and gift ideas.

Tomorrow is the last day of term, we (myself and my boys) are ready for the holidays now, hopefully we will still be enjoying being together five to six weeks from now !

We have a busy summer holiday agenda planned and I just hope I can fit in some work inbetween !  My youngest son in particular has had a busy final week at school with a summer concert, a 'quad' kids after school sports event (a school team of children who each participate in long distance, short distance running, long jump and throwing, against other schools), a humanities day out at one of the local secondary schools and another day out involving music and sport hosted by the other local secondary school.  Today he finished work on his 1960's topic with a fancy dress party with 1960's inspired food.

We had fun putting together a 'hippy' look which worked pretty well.  Apparently there was quite a lot of 'food on sticks' at the party including our pineapple, cheese and glace cherry combos which were still hanging about at the end of the party so I am told, presumably not that appetising in 2010 as they were in the 60's !

We have also sorted out our teachers presents and worked out those that have already received a 'Joanna London' mug for the staff room and those that have not !

My youngest son has one more year at our local junior school, the last of my three boys to attend the school, it would be good to create a bespoke mug design featuring the school or such like for staff presents at this time and I must make sure I allow myself enough time next year to plan this.

If you are interested in creating a mug or plate for a special occassion or event either using your own photographs, your designs (childrens drawings perhaps) or wish to commission a design please do get in touch.  They really do make special gifts.

If you, like me are entertaining school aged children this summer - enjoy !
